Colorectal Surgeon (Bowel), General Surgeon
It depends upon several factors including where the hernia is, how large it is and what you are planning to do exercise wise. For the best case scenario post a laparoscopic Inguinal hernia, I recommend that you can walk as much as you like from the day after surgery till 2 weeks, then aerobic activity that supports the body weight like cycling or swimming from 2-6 weeks, the jog if you like from 6 weeks. It will take theatre months till you are fully healed, so no heavy lifting (>10kg) till then. Those dumbbells in the gym will have to wait! At all times as you recover, listen to your body - if it hurts stop doing it.
