The testes should naturally move up and down in the scrotum depending on temperature and the stimulation of sensory nerves in the area which result in retraction of the testes closer to the body. Testes which often seem a little high may just be retractile, as a parent or carer may be inadvertently be stimulating the normal, reflex retraction of the testis during nappy changes or when the child is being cleaned in the bath or shower. A normally descended testis should be able to be pulled down to the bottom of the scrotum without tension and stay there for a few moments. Sometimes the boy will need to be reviewed by a doctor to determine if the testes are retractile or requires surgery to correctly position them in the scrotum.
