    VLCD's for BMI of 40+

    Hi,
I am 40 years old and considering trying a VLCD (optislim/optifast or similar). I have been on several weight loss programs and don't manage maintenance at all well. Healthy ones at that, and loved the process, till life takes over. It's a story similar for many of us I am sure.

I want to get rid of some bulk so I can move more easily, sleep better and raise my energy levels to get on and do it right for myself.

This isn't an option I have considered before. I am not feeling fad-ish, just desperate, and worried about my health.

    My own experience
now + 50 - Bmi wrong side of 30 initially - now heading down below the BMI of 23. Takes a while and a fair bit of application /and support

have used the Professor Trim program very successfully - evidence based and well supported by medical types with good reading and like minded souls

    Hi there,

It sounds like you are motivated to make some changes. I would advise you to seek professional advice from your GP before going on a VLCD diet. You might also like to chat to an Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD). APD's are the “experts” in all things food and nutrition and can help you to make long term healthy changes to your diet and lifestyle that fit in with your daily schedule to help you lose those unwanted kgs.

APD's understand that sometimes in life there are bumps and setbacks that simply cannot be avoided. They can help you through these and come up with strategies that work for you to keep you on track. To find an APD near you, go to www.daa.asn.au and click on the find an APD tab :) I wish you luck in your weight loss goals.

I have commenced optislim for breakfast and lunch then eat a healthy choice meal for dinner. I need to lose between 60-70kgs so its a long road but I am determined. I find the optislim very very filling.
