Fabry disease is a genetic condition. The genetic mutation is linked to the X chromosome, therefore, symptoms are believed to be more severe in men than in women but  this is not always the case. It is now known that women can develop symptoms of Fabry disease, these symptoms can vary from mild to severe and may start later in life compared to men.
