Frequently asked questions

Yes, you need a GP referral in order to make an appointment with us. This is because our specialists are legally obliged to have a referral letter for every patient. It is also important to have a referral letter in order to claim your Medicare rebate.

Please ensure that you have visited your GP or a referring specialist in order to obtain a referral letter prior to making your initial appointment with us. Without this, it may not be possible for us to see you at your scheduled appointment time.

When you visit Women’s Health Plus for the first time, you should ensure that you bring your GP referral letter, your Medicare card, and your private health insurance card (if applicable).

While you are being seen for a gynaecological matter, we take a holistic approach. Therefore, it is crucial to have on hand the following information to assist us in your management: (a) ALL past and current medical problems for which treatment was required (e.g. high blood pressure, asthma, diabetes, etc.); (b) ALL previous surgical procedures with approximate dates; and (c) ALL current medications including prescription and over the counter (e.g. vitamin supplements, herbal remedies, etc.).

It is also useful to bring with you the results of any previous tests you have undergone, such as blood tests and ultrasounds, and any other information that you think might be useful for your Gynaecologist to know.

Our specialists charge an affordable gap for both initial and follow up gynaecological consults. This will be discussed in detail when you book your initial appointment. Please note that when you are being seen at our rooms, you will always receive a Medicare rebate on all consults and office procedures.

Your initial consultation will take approximately 45 minutes. Follow-up consultations are generally 30 minutes long.

However, providing every patient the best possible care can sometimes result in longer waiting times. We understand your time is valuable and this can be frustrating (we’ve all been there), but unfortunately appointment times can be unpredictable.

The length of our doctors’ waiting lists will vary. However, if you feel that the wait for your scheduled appointment is too long, please let us know and will place you on our waiting list for cancellations.

We always get in touch with our patients to confirm their appointments the day before. If at this time another patient cancels or reschedules, we will contact you to offer you that appointment time.

In the meantime, we may book you in with our Women's Health GP who works closely alongside our specialist as part of an MDT to fast track your care.

Women’s Health Plus doctors have admission rights at North Eastern Community HospitalBurnside HospitalCalvary North Adelaide Hospital and most other private hospitals in Adelaide.

As we have a long waiting list of patients requesting to be seen, you can appreciate that failing to attend a consultation or failing to provide adequate notice of your cancellation means that patients who require urgent assistance are not receiving treatment promptly.

Therefore, we require at least 24 hours’ notice in order to avoid a cancellation fee being charged. We understand that sometimes, due to unforeseen circumstances, you may need to cancel on the day. Please speak to our practice manager if this is the case.
