September has been an encouraging month for bowel cancer patients and their families – it started with Erbitux being listed on the PBS and has ended with Xeloda® receiving an extended PBS listing.
After being caught up in PBS deferrals earlier this year, Minister Roxon announced that Xeloda (capecitabine) will be available on the PBS from 1 December 2011 for patients with advanced bowel cancer – stage III (Dukes C) in combination with another chemotherapy, oxaliplatin. The combination therapy is known as XELOX.
