What could be causing my sore throat?

I've had a sore throat for a couple of months. I've tried antibiotics and have finally been referred to an ENT specialist. I've seen a number of Dr's. My appointment is not for a few weeks so I'm a bit concerned.
There's a burning dry feeling in the throat and occasionally feels like something is stuck in it. There's the occasional pain in my tonsil area. I don't have tonsils now. Dr was unable to feel any lumps. There's no coughing, no weight loss and no problem swallowing. It becomes more painful when talking for long periods but there's no change in my voice. Any ideas?
