Dr Marcus Chia is an Orthopaedic Surgeon in Sydney, Australia. As a Fellowship trained Shoulder and Elbow surgeon, he employs the most current arthroscopic and open surgical techniques to restore joint function and keep patients involved in an active lifestyle.
As a member of the Australian Orthopaedic Association Dr Chia is committed to ensuring the highest possible standard of Orthopaedic care. He is actively involved in research, has published articles in peer reviewed journals and presented at national and international meetings.
Dr Chia completed his undergraduate studies in Physiotherapy at the University of Sydney, after which, he was involved in providing sporting coverage for a number of rugby, netball, soccer and water polo teams, at both club and state level.
Following this, Dr Chia obtained his Medical degree at the University of Sydney graduating with Honours. He completed his Basic Surgical Training and Advanced Surgical Training in Orthopaedic Surgery on the Sydney training scheme.
Dr Chia then received subspecialty training in Shoulder and Elbow surgery at the Alps Surgery Institute, Clinique Générale, Annecy, France. Here he trained under Dr Laurent Lafosse, a pioneer in shoulder arthroscopy, who invented amongst other techniques, the Arthroscopic Latarjet Procedure for shoulder instability, and the arthroscopic Suprascapular nerve release. Dr Chia follows his mentor’s ethos and continues to push the envelop of what can be achieved with an arthroscope.
Dr Chia received further subspecialty training in Shoulder and Elbow surgery in the United Kingdom at the Brighton and Sussex University Hospital NHS Trust. He also spent time visiting other internationally renowned Shoulder and Elbow surgeons in the UK, South Africa and the United States.
Dr Chia is able to provide his patients cutting edge techniques and treatments of international standard. His practice offers minimally invasive and advanced techniques for the treatment of arthritis, instability, rotator cuff tear, fracture and other less common shoulder and elbow disorders.
Outside of work, Dr Chia is a keen surfer. He lives on the Northern Beaches with his wife and 3 boys.
