An exercise physiologist is an allied health professional whose sole role is to help their clients help themselves. They do not typically utilise any hands on therapies but through motor pattern retraining, strengthening, goal setting, psychological and behavioural strategies (amongst other strategies) are able to empower their clientele to make lasting and meaningful changes when faced with health concerns such as musculoskeletal pain or chronic disease and can even form part of a treatment team for patients with mental health concerns. Whilst a massage or manual therapy might make you feel good for a few hours, working with an exercise physiologist can help you overcome the barriers to a better life.
