Worried about surgery for hysteroscopy and D&C... help?

I've been told I need diagnostic hysteroscopy and D&C. D&C 20yrs ago to terminate a pregnancy. I was newly married but had a nervous breakdown at the thought of having a child. The D&C didn't go well. Left on my side in recovery position I awoke vomiting and in pain. 1wk later I was rushed to hospital for another D&C due to pain and infection from retained products.I awoke cold and isolated in recovery, calling for my husband but they would not bring him in for some time.I wished I hadn't woken up. Back in the ward I started vomiting and continued so for 5 hrs.I was kept in hospital overnight on IV.I awoke during the night with burning abdominal pain and horrendous contractions which made me feel nauseous & dizzy. Nursing staff said I'd been given the maximum pain control medication dosage. In 5wks I am booked into hospital for hysteroscopy & D&C following postmenopausal bleeding. My GP tranquilized me on Valium to get through first examination. Permanent sedation now, still I burst into tears at the thought of surgery & awake in panic.
