Garlic and onions are not allowed on the strict low FODMAP diet. As garlic chives are related to the onion family, I would suggest avoiding them whilst on the strict low FODMAP diet. Once symptom free after 6-8 weeks on low FODMAP diet, you could challenge garlic chives when challenging fructans (wheat, onion, garlic) as it falls in the same category of FODMAPs. Some individuals may be able to tolerate cooking meals with whole garlic/ onion/ garlic chives and then removing them prior to serving. This provides added flavour to the dish without the consumption of the garlic/ onion/ garlic chive.

Agreed Courtney better to be safe.

However the green top of the spring onion is allowed and also garlic flavoured oil tends be well tolerated

This may help you to expand the diet a little more whilst still remaining low FODMAP.

Of the herbs that have been tested, including chives, all are safe. Given chives and the green part of spring onion are safe it would be safe to assume that garlic chives are also suitable on the low FODMAP diet.
Nice to know you can enjoy some flavour!
