    Many things can cause hepatitis (inflammation of liver cells). Aside from physical injury if one suffers a blow to the abdomen, there are various toxins such as alcohol, some medications, plant compounds, industrial chemicals, etc. Most commonly, hepatitis is caused by viral infection: hepatitis A virus, hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus. These are three distinct viruses with different transmission routes, disease courses and treatments.
