Q: Why would I bother taking a multivitamin? Do they really contain high enough levels of what I need?

Even if you have a specific nutrient requirement that requires extra supplementation, a good quality multivitamin is a great basic underlying support. I agree that if you have significantly low levels of a particular nutrient, or a specific health complaint you'll need to seek professional advice as to which supplements to best support you. For example, if you are experiencing muscle tension and cramping this may indicate an increased need for the mineral magnesium and a multivitamin is unlikely to deliver a high enough dose of magnesium to meet your needs.

I believe there is a strong case for taking a good quality multivitamin as part of your daily routine to help enhance energy production, improve stress relief, increase antioxidant activity and support immunity.

Firstly, there is a phenomenon called nutrient synergy – that means that when certain nutrients are delivered together they not only enhance the absorption of each other but they also enhance the body's usage of each nutrient. For example B vitamins work well together, and not as well individually - eg. Vits B1,2 3 work together for energy production whist B5 & 6 help support adrenal activity.

Secondly unless you have an organic, fully balanced nutritious diet you will be affected to some extent by the nutrient–depleted food supply due to modern day farming practices, over processing and refining of food and/or lengthy refrigeration times.

My suggestion is to find a good quality multivitamin from a trusted Australian owned brand in an easy to take one-a-day formula as a support.
