As seen on 60 minutes - perispinal etanercept

Conversation started by Lotus

Hi, just wondering if Alzheimer's Australia or anyone has further information regarding  perispinal etanercept, an anti-inflammatory drug that was designed to treat rheumatoid arthritis that appears to be succesfully treating dementia patients in the US. Why is the treastment not available in Australia as yet?

  • Hi, I also would like to know why this treatment is not available in Australia?

As this is available in the US, do you know if any Australian's have travelled to US to receive this treatment? I would like to get in touch with anyone that has travelled to US to receive this treatment.

    • The same treatment is available at the neurological Wellness Centre in Nicaragua at a fraction of the cost in U.S.A. you will find it on google. I have just been over there for a family member. There will be a trial next year through Griffith Uni Gold Coast Reply to this post  |  Report
  • The Neurological Wellness Centre in Nicaragua will be offering a d.v.d. for sale with all of the information required to use the perispinal Enbrel treatment for A.D. this is a legit service my family member has had improvement and it did occur shortly after the first injection within 7-10 minutes. This is not a cure but improvement is o.k. for us until something comes along that is a cure, a better quality of life for al lconcerned especially the patient.
The follow up from the clinic has been exceptional since we returned to Australia in Dec 11
You can read why the treatment is not available  on the websites of the inventor of this procedure Dr Edward Tobinick he has a patent on tne treatment procedure . Nicaraguan clinic was developed to get around this, there fees under $1000.00 for training and educating the carer on the procedure by an M.D. you then purchase the Enbrel at a reduced cost to the U.S.A.
WHEN THE TRIAL STARTS  at Griffith University we can only hope it is a success and then things may change for the many sufferers and families that are desperate for something to help.

Unfortunately it is that very desperation that leads to the vulnerability of people suffering from this condition, their carers and families. This is particularly the case for older people suffering from this debilitating condition who are unable and lack capacity to participate in decision making about their treatment in an informed manner.
