Feeling sad and overwhelmed :-(

Conversation started by kristenfromsydney

Hi all, I went to visit my grandfather this morning after a huge operation to remove cancer from the bowel, 25cm of bowel gone as well. Im praying that it is all gone, he is 81 years old today and has been my rock, my support and like my father my whole life. This awful disease doesnt discriminate, i feel totally helpless and praying he will be ok. He has been in ICU for 24 hours now, and drs said he will be moving into a ward so thats a great thing. Grandfather has had many polyps removed over the years, he has had a yearly colonoscapy that picked up on this cancer.

I truely feel for everyone affected by this silent deadly killer :-(

    Hi Kristen,

Thank you for your post regarding your grandfather’s recent diagnosis and operation, and also for sharing some of your own experiences - as a loved one of someone undergoing treatment for bowel cancer.

We know how hard it can be to hear that someone you care about has bowel cancer, and to support them through their treatment.

Please do let us know if we can ever assist by offering advice, or help by answering any questions you have.

If you do have any queries or concerns - please feel free to contact us at Bowel Cancer Australia for advice from our nurse and nutritionist advisory services, or if you would like more information on joining our Love My Family Community which, among many things, can put in contact with another member in a similar situation – family members and/or carers of someone undergoing treatment for bowel cancer.

Sending your grandfather our very best wishes.

    Kind regards

The team at Bowel Cancer Australia

  • My father had a similar op when he was 76 and although at the time is was horrible, he recoverd really well and died aged 89 from old age.  He was given a second chance at life and witnessed 4 more grandchildren born and spent time with my mother travelling.  Reply to this post  |  Report
