Probiotic and chemo treatment
Conversation started by finniHi all,
Just wondering if anyone is using a pro-biotic (ie: Inner Health Plus) during their chemo treatment?
Cheers,
Finni.

Thanks for your comment and question about pro biotics and chemotherapy.
In a recent study pro biotics were deemed useful in the treatment of chemotherapy induced diarrhoea.
Pro biotics help to assist bowel function and are therefore considered safe, and possibly beneficial, during chemotherapy.

Thank you very much for your question.
Please find below a link to the Clinical Study article, from the British Journal of Cancer.

Thanks Teresa, what a nice simple study.
I remember checking the evidence for benefits of taking probiotics daily last year and learnt that the term probiotic really is just a marketing term and that evidence showing a positive impact of daily supplementation varied between studies. The overall conclusion back then seemed to be that probiotics only really help under conditions of extreme inflammation - which is entirely consistent with what this latest study shows as the intestines become very upset during chemotherapy.
Thanks again for sharing this paper.
