    Hi Nicky,

There are many ways you can get involved in excercise again but in my opinion the best way to excercise is to find an activity you can do with your kids. I am not sure how old your kids are but if they are young, there are many yoga, pilates and strength training classes that incorporate classes into each move. If they are older, try find an activity like bike riding or a family walk would be good to take after dinner especially now that summer is around the corner.

Some other options would be to get up 30mins earlier than you usually do a few days a week, you might find excercising before work will give you the energy you need to get through the day.  Another option would be to excercise at work during your lunch break and try finding a colleague or two to participate with you.  Hope this helps, let me know if you try any of these options and how they go for you.

    • Thanks Gavin! Totally agree you need to involve the kids- I am walking with a friend (and the babies) this morning so we can do it together. I also took your advice and got up at 6am yesterday and did a cardio pilates class while my husband looked after our child - I was back home by 7.30 which was perfect timing and i felt GREAT (my muscles are very sore today). It's the first time i've exercised by myself in the morning in over 18 months! Great to have the old me back! I agree with you that exercise in the morning is the best way to go- energises you for the day ahead! Reply to this post  |  Report

  • Don't know how old your kids are but I can recommend judo as a fitness option. I started the sport after watching my eldest having a ball I would feed the 6 month old baby, attempt to get her off to sleep and my eldest had the job of keeping the baby entertained on the sidelines. Somehow we got away with it for the whole 90 minute session once weekly at first and now I get 2-3 sessions in weekly.

Judo is a great sport which is only second to swimming for the number of muscles you are able to use. It's intense, varied and if you need a coach to keep you motivated and to push you, it's perfect. It does help if you have a masochistic streak a mile wide. It's also relatively cheap compared to the gym. Once you get past joining clubs and associations , then it usually costs about $5 each session. Most clubs have spare judogi for you to wear until you are ready to buy your own. www.judoinfo.com is a good place to start for finding a local club.
